The Legend of Reog Kendang Tulungagung

When the kahuripan kingdom was ruled by King Airlangga, his Commander-in-chief was a powerful man, named Butalocaya. Commander-in-chief Butalocaya has two sons, namely Joko Lodra and Lion Lodra. Expecting his children to be good leaders, Butalocaya educates his sons very hard.

One day, the two sons were called butalocaya. Jaka Lodra wears a belt that resembles a buffalo horn. Seeing his behavior, Butaloaya became angry. Instantly his two sons were cursed. Jaka Lodra became a human with the head of a buffalo while Singo Lodra became a human with the head of a buffalo.

For days and even months, the two sons of Butalocaya did not dare to leave the house. He was ashamed and afraid that his cruel parents would be known by others. And they decided to leave kahuripan. They finally decided to go to the forest west of the doho kingdom in Kediri. With the intention, his two sons granted his father's will to become leaders. So, off they go. Jaka Lodra then changed his name to Mahesasura, and Singo Lodra became Jatasura. The odyssey they did for years so that they began to be forgotten by the kahuripan community. And in the end, they are looking for a place to lead an empire.

According to his father's will, Mahesasura became a king and Jatasura became his senopati. The kingdom was called the Bandar Angina Kingdom. To hide their animal-like heads, they set up a high platform which they named after the wind.

One day Mahesasura and Jatasura clashed with each other. This is because they are fascinated by the beauty of the queen of the doho kingdom, her name is Dewi Kilisuci. Mahesasura sent his Commander-in-chiefto propose to Dewi Kilisuci. After seeing her beauty, Jatasura also wanted to marry Dewi Kilisuci. And finally, there was a dueling war between brother and sister. Mahesasura was finally killed and Jatasura was victorious.

After Jatasura's victory, it turned out that Dewi Kilisuci broke her promise. Jatasura was angry and sent his soldiers to attack the kingdom of Dhoho. Jathasura and his soldiers finally won and all the soldiers of Kediri were captured and a bamboo fence.

Commander-in-chief from Dewi Kilisuci gave suggestions to give Jatasura some more conditions. As for the conditions, First, Jatasura must make a big well at the top of Mount Kelud, Second, the captured soldiers must be released and may witness the marriage ceremony near the big well, Third, surrender the tukung chicken, which is a chicken that does not have a tail and has a body the size of a tilted drum while His head is as big as a betel nut and his eyes are as big as a penceng hut. The four are accompanied by music with the music of a god with the character of Nine.

Jatasura finally granted the request of the goddess Kilisuci. Then at one time, the peak of Mount Kelud was crowded and a wedding ceremony was held between Dewi Kilisuci and Jatasura. Jatasura soldiers and Dewi Kilisuci filled the place where the two leaders' wedding party would be held. When it was crowded, there was a scream, and an object that resembled the goddess Kilisuci fell into the well. Jatasura was about to help her and plunged into the well. Jatasura loved the goddess Kilisuci so much and made her blind to love. But what can you do, it's just a trick of Dewi Kilisuci and her men. Jatasura entered the well, the warriors of Dewi Kilisuci threw stones at the well, and finally, Jatasura was buried. Dewi Kilisuci was happy because she had thwarted Jatsura's wish to marry her. To commemorate this event, Kendang dances were created in Tulungagung Regency depicting the procession of the soldiers of the Doho royal troops while accompanying the bride of Queen Kilisuci to Mount Kelud to witness the results of Jathasura's work regarding the requirements he had given.

The message of this story is, do not let love make our eyes kill each other's siblings. Mahesasura and Jatasura's brotherly relationship was finally broken and Mahesasura was killed.
